Colorado de Rustrel
Nature · 5/23/2009 · Original language: Russian
This amazing place is located in a small village called Rustrel.
30 hectares of stunning shades of earth, from bright yellow to deep orange.
In the 19th and 20th centuries, Colorado was successfully used for extracting natural ochre, of which there is an abundance here (25 different colors). For example, in 1929 about 40,000 tons of ochre were obtained, most of it right here in Rustrel.
Near Colorado there is a fairly large parking lot. Admission is paid. The rates (in French, though) can be viewed on the official website.

An amazing contrast — here are the familiar white cliffs, and right beside them this stunning bright russet color!

It’s really awesome there. A must-visit :)
