The ruins are located at an altitude of 1207 meters. Half an hour’s walk along the path uphill and you are at your destination. There is an entrance fee.
The fortress is considered the last stronghold of the Cathars.
The band Iron Maiden wrote a song dedicated to this fortress and the Cathars, called "Montsegur" on the album "Dance of Death"
