San Marino

San Marino is the capital of the Republic of San Marino, the oldest state in Europe and one of the smallest countries in the world. The town is beautifully situated on top of Mount Titano, so it can be seen from far away.

You can get to the city in several ways.

1. Park your car at the foot of the mountain and take the funicular to San Marino. The funicular costs 2.80 euros one way. As for parking, there is a paid parking lot right at the funicular entrance, costing about 1 euro per hour.

2. Drive all the way to the city of San Marino by car. There are many parking lots in the city itself, and they are a little more expensive (by 20-30 cents per hour).

3. Do as we did :) Stop at the free parking lot 300 meters from the funicular and walk to San Marino. Approximate coordinates of this wonderful parking lot with a restroom are 43.940904, 12.442304. The only mistake we made was that on the way to San Marino we walked along the road for cars, and there is no sidewalk there at all. Apparently, hardly anyone walks there. Though halfway there the route through the forest park begins, which we were very happy about. For those who want to climb up, there is a great path; it starts near the funicular.

There are a lot of Russian tourists in San Marino, and it was very unusual to hear Russian spoken everywhere.

Because of this, almost all signs are duplicated in Russian, and one of the shops even had a sign saying "We accept rubles!"
