Cafe at the gas station. We bought a chicken cutlet sandwich and coffee with milk.
The next stop was in the roadside town of Ingeniero Jacobacci.
We got out there to take a short walk and breathe in some fresh air.
Las Grutas - Bariloche
Chile 2023
We got up early; today we have a long drive to Bariloche.
Across all of Argentina, from east to west.
There are almost no settlements on this road. Desert all around.
After 300 km, we stopped at a gas station to fill up with fuel and grab a bite to eat.
It’s cool that their gas stations have vending machines (looking like coffee machines from the outside) where you can buy (very cheaply) just boiling water.
We refilled our thermos.

A street in the town of Ingeniero Jacobacci. Lots of cool old cars. A real open-air museum.
It’s interesting that in Argentina and Chile, many city streets are one-way.
At the same time, there are no “normal” road signs for this.
This is indicated by small arrows next to the street name on the poles standing at every intersection.
I remember when we first arrived here and still hadn’t figured this out, we accidentally drove in the opposite direction...
Luckily, it was Sunday then and there were few cars in the city.

On the sidewalk, a pole with street names and small arrow signs...

The road was sometimes unpaved, but scenic. The desert ended and the mountains began.

Today we’re staying in a small, beautiful hotel on the shore of a lake. The hotel lobby.

Our small but lovely room.

Our route for today: Las Grutas - Bariloche. We traveled 646 km. We drove for 10 hours.
