Sri Lanka, 2018
Itinerary
Dear readers, this is an introduction for you.
At first I thought I would keep a diary just for myself and only a couple of lines. I once gave myself my word to write at least a little in every trip I take, because memory is such an unreliable thing.
I really regret now that I didn’t keep diaries when we first started traveling. The first trip to the Czech Republic with Volchy, our first trip to Europe in our old Renault to Slovakia, then trips to France, then, then. How many impressions there were back then. I still remember some things, but all these trips around Europe have merged into one journey lasting a lifetime, and of course only something truly unforgettable is remembered… And yet there were so many pleasant (and not so pleasant) impressions.
I confess, I sometimes (usually when I’m sad) reread my diaries and am glad that I wrote all this down (and sometimes I really didn’t want to, honestly!). By the way, I wrote a lot thanks to you, because I knew that you were waiting…
This trip to Sri Lanka does not seem to me either exciting or fascinating. We came here only because we really wanted to (I really wanted to, Volchy seems to think that life in Kyiv is pretty good as it is) to swim and escape the winter and also change the scenery, and then there happened to be a special offer on tickets to Sri Lanka. But to be honest, I never really wanted to come here.
It seems there will be nothing to write about. Every day is essentially the same — beaches, beaches.
But I realized that you, the people closest to me, will be interested in reading about anything we do, no matter what happens to us or on what scale.
I don’t know whether my scribblings will be interesting to other people this time.
(added 6 days after arrival)
So far, my impressions of Sri Lanka are very mixed. We haven’t found a single place where we would want to stay. We’re moving very quickly, from beach to beach. We’ve traveled through almost the entire southwest coast, and there are still 3 weeks ahead. So far, we don’t know what we’ll be doing here for so long….
