First trip to India, January 2015

Itinerary

Last night we finally got out of our sleeping bags and decided to sleep under the blanket. I moved over to Wolf’s bed; it was scary to sleep alone. The room we chose had two separate beds. I slept badly, woke up often, restlessly. At some point we decided to put in earplugs, and it got a little quieter.
We didn’t make it to breakfast; getting up turned out to be very difficult. Wolf kept waking me for a long time. My eyes just didn’t want to open. In the end, we got up at almost 13:00

Day 2 - January 10

From the window, we could see a funny dog sleeping on the roof of a car. And a family of monkeys ran along the wires.
For breakfast, we drank coffee and finished the cookies.
We decided to take a walk around the area and scout the way to the metro.
It is very difficult to walk on the roads in India; there are absolutely no sidewalks for pedestrians, so you have to walk on the roadway.
There are a lot of cars, everyone honks, it’s noisy.
There are also a lot of people, and everyone is quite friendly.
I try to walk confidently and smile; I think it helps.
We did make it to the metro. And even crossed the road (this is not funny, it was quite scary).
There is plenty of security near the metro, beautiful Ibis and Holiday Inn hotels, and a well-kept area.
A room at the Ibis cost 6,000 rupees, almost 1,500 UAH.
We decided not to go to central Delhi (we live near the airport), since there was little time left before dark. The metro is beautiful; at the entrance, bags are checked like at airports. The ticket is not cheap: to central Delhi it costs 80 rupees (20 UAH).
On the way we saw a lot of things. Someone was standing by the road and baking flatbreads. We came closer to watch, and a child immediately ran up and, clinging to Volchy’s leg, asked for money. It would be nice if they keep clinging to him too….
On the way back, we stopped by a shop and bought Mivina, tea, and cookies.

Day 2 - January 10

We walked a little further along the strange, very crowded street with lots of stalls. Here and there they were selling things — food, clothes, all sorts of odds and ends. At one little eatery we bought masala dosa, a kind of flatbread stuffed with potatoes. The place was rather gloomy; I tried not to watch how they cooked and washed the dishes. I was scared to eat the flatbread, although it seemed pretty good in taste. Volchiy ate it. By the end he even poured the sauce they served with it over it. I took a couple of bites too.

What am I feeling? I don’t even know. Inside, it’s as if some kind of safety valve is kicking in, one that doesn’t let me absorb everything at full strength just yet. I’m wary of something all the time. I try to relax, to accept everything as it is. But the need to be careful all the time won’t let me rest.
We got home around 16:00; it was already getting dark. By 18:00 it was completely dark. I was hungry. We had tea with cookies. A little later we made Mivina, and threw almost all of it away — it’s terribly tasteless here. We had some more tea; it turned out to be black tea with some spices, tasty.
The evening is ending, time to sleep.
