Day 33, February 20

Yangon-Bagan

Asia 2016

Itinerary

In the evening we have a bus to Bagan - probably Myanmar’s most famous attraction, the valley of temples. The bus departs from the bus station far from the center, but public transport goes there.

On the way, we stopped at a café to have tea and eat before the journey.

The café was full of men. The tea was very tasty. Here in Myanmar, the milk tea is delicious everywhere, very much like Indian masala tea.

We found a minibus to the bus station at the roundabout with the stupa, where we had been on the first day. The driver knew the name of the company that was supposed to take us and dropped us off not far from their “office” at the bus station, which turned out to be very good. The bus station is huge, there are lots of carriers there, and it’s not easy to figure things out right away.

There were still 2 hours before the bus departure, so we went for a walk. Near the bus station there is a small stupa, where there is peace and quiet.

The bus turned out to be very comfortable, with huge legroom and soft, wide seats. They even gave us blankets like on a plane, water, and a bun. In the luggage compartment above our seats, I found a guidebook to Myanmar in English, probably someone had forgotten it. I was so happy. I love paper guidebooks, and this one even had beautiful color pictures.

We had to travel all night, and we arrive in Bagan at 5 a.m.
