Asia 2016

Day 5, January 23

Ao Nang

Asia 2016

Itinerary

We had breakfast with two kinds of mango: it turned out they tasted completely different.

Then we set off on a trip, wanting to finally go for a swim. Everyone wrote that Ao Nang had a bad beach, so we decided to head farther north, to Nopparat Thara Beach.

On the way, we decided to look for food. In the Ao Nang area, everything was very expensive, even in seemingly unremarkable cafés. We made a small detour and stopped at a roadside café along the way. We ordered rice noodles. I had hoped they would bring us something like pad thai, but instead they brought something completely different. Volchemu really didn’t like it. The wide strips of rice noodles were hard to chew. I thought the dish was quite acceptable. Then we stopped by the market to restock on mangoes :)

We bought Volchemu funny sunglasses (riding a moped without glasses is completely uncomfortable, and he had forgotten his in the Logan).

Low tide at Nopparat Thara Beach

Low tide at Nopparat Thara Beach

Finally we made it to the beach… How surprised we were when it turned out that there was a strong low tide at that time (it was around 3 p.m.). Nobody was swimming; people were just walking far out into the sea. It smelled here like some kind of fish factory :) From a distance, the water looked light brown.

On the shore, in the shade of the trees on the grass, Thai people had set up a picnic for themselves. It is very beautiful here; huge boulders overgrown with greenery are scattered in the sea, which makes it very picturesque.

Realizing that we wouldn’t be able to swim anywhere now, we decided not to follow the planned route to other, more distant beaches. We went back home.

As usual, we slept a little. Today it turned out to be just a little :)

Sunset on the pier

Let's go for a walk on the pier from which boats depart to the famous Railay Beach. I think we'll go there tomorrow.
